Boehner’s Do-Nothing Congress

Wingnut Series - John Boehner and Congress : http://mariopiperni.com/

Weakest, least effective speaker in the history of the House.

House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) defended his chamber against charges of inaction Wednesday, suggesting that the Democratic-controlled Senate is the reason that Congress has passed barely 60 pieces of legislation this year — a record low.

“The House has passed nearly 150 bills in this Congress that the United States Senate has failed to act on,” Boehner said in brief remarks on the House floor. “Many of them would help our economy and boost job creation.”

list provided by Boehner’s office mentions dozens of proposals rejected by the Senate, including the House-passed budget proposal, legislation approving construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, proposals to streamline federal job-training programs and several measures to scale back or repeal the Affordable Care Act.

And this:

“Every single one of these bills have been blocked by Washington Democrats,” Boehner said. “The Senate and the President continue to stand in the way of the people’s priorities.”

Forty-three of those 150 bills Boehner and his boys passed had to do with repealing the health care law and a bunch of others dealt with deregulating industry to allow Koch Industries and others to further screw up the environment while pocketing billions.  Check out Boehner’s 150 bills yourself. It’s a joke. Even when proposed bills weren’t half bad (not often), Republicans attached riders to them which would have weakened the ACA, approved the Keystone pipeline or cut social programs for the poor – all measures which made it impossible for Senate Dems to vote for.

Not one noteworthy bill was passed unless a bill naming the I-70 bridge over the Mississippi River the “Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge” counts as a noteworthy bill.

Wait. I was wrong. I just dug up more important legislation that came out of  this Congress. Apparently, a bill made it out of the House all the way to President Obama’s desk and became law. Section 219(c) of the Internal Revenue Code was renamed the “Kay Bailey Hutchison Spousal IRA” after former Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Nice.

Okay, two important bills in 12 months and…hold on. Damn, just found another significant Boehner bill that became law. Congress passed a bill that modifies “the boundary of the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in the State of South Dakota.” Essentially, the bill allows for the construction of a visitors facility and a new parking lot at the site.

No immigration reform bill. No jobs bill. No budget. But Boehner did get to rename a section of the tax code after a Republican senator and extend the parking lot at the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in South Dakota. Good job, assholes.

When all is said and done, history will not be kind to the 113th Congress and in particular, to John Boehner and his worthless House of baggers and wingers.
